Tuesday, February 13th CLASS IS CANCELLED due to the impending storm.Ashtanga Yoga - General Description of the PracticeAshtanga Yoga is a challenging, vigorous and flowing style of Hatha Yoga. Ashtanga yoga asana, as taught by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, is a series of postures which coordinates every movement of the body with the breath and generates a sense of moving meditation.  Ujjayi breath (deep nasal breathing), and bandhas (internal muscle “locks” which lead to deeper energetic engagement), support the movement of the body and mind through the prescribed sequence of postures. The practice develops strength, flexibility and awareness of mind and body.Students learn a set order of postures beginning with Sun Salutations (Suryanamaskara A and B), followed by a sequence of standing poses, seated postures, backbends, and finishing poses. Gentle Yoga with Elizabeth RogersThis class is appropriate for EVERYONE, regardless of experience or age!  A gentle and relaxing class, incorporating breath work, meditation, extensive stretching, yoga poses, and peace.  An opportunity to escape the daily stresses of life, to care for yourself, to come away feeling invigorated and whole again - in body, mind, and spirit.Elizabeth Rogers Elizabeth has been practicing yoga now for 18 years.  In 2003 she received her teaching certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Elizabeth was introduced to yoga following her recovery from breast cancer and found that her practice was enormously helpful in regaining a sense of balance in her life.  She retired from a career in banking and systems analysis to pursue a more holistic path.  One of her greatest joys is to help people find and restore their center of calm, peace and well being using a gentle, spiritual, and nurturing approach through her teachings of yoga.

Babysitter Safety TrainingWhen parents entrust their most treasured gifts to a babysitter, they will feel more secure and be more likely to hire someone who has taken Babysitter Safety Training. Babysitters who are trained in safety will have more confidence in dealing with the challenges that may face them while caring for children of all ages and stages. While the focus of this training is safety first, emphasis is also placed on responsibility, practical knowledge of childcare, and developing a positive attitude when caring for children. Please bring a stuffed animal or doll.Certificate upon completionHome Alone Staying SafeThis class will prepare kids to handle most home alone situations, from an unexpected knock on the door to an emergency 911 phone call. It also covers food/kitchen safety, choking prevention and Heimlich Maneuverer, basic first aid, handling emergencies, handling fears, safety to and from school, basic street smarts and lots of prevention!First Aid for KidsIn First Aid for Kids, students will learn how to stay calm and take control in the face of a minor injury. Students will unpack the provided mini first aid kit and figure out how best to use their supplies. Age-appropriate discussions, stories and demos will include treatment of cuts, burns, nose bleeds, bee stings, tick bites, bumps, bruises, indoor/outdoor hazards, and plenty of prevention. Participants will practice wrapping with an ace bandage and using an epi pen and much more.Who is South Shore Safety?Bette Antonellis, L.P.N., CTTS-M Co-Founder, InstructorAs a co-founder of South Shore Safety, Bette is a dedicated health educator with a passion for teaching all aspects of child safety. Ashtanga yoga asana, as taught by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, is a series of postures which coordinates every movement of the body with the breath and generates a sense of moving meditation.  Ujjayi breath (deep nasal breathing), and bandhas (internal muscle “locks” which lead to deeper energetic engagement), support the movement of the body and mind through the prescribed sequence of postures. The practice develops strength, flexibility and awareness of mind and body.Students learn a set order of postures beginning with Sun Salutations (Suryanamaskara A and B), followed by a sequence of standing poses, seated postures, backbends, and finishing poses. “The Mindful Me” with Dr. Katie Florek, Clinical Psychologist.  This is a 6-week workshop designed to assist your child in self-esteem development using art, movement, and collaborative play. Children will learn to recognize, value, and enhance their inner strength while learning strategies to cope with stress and frustration.
